Edible Thatcham is delighted to have the support of Newbury and District Agricultural Society, better known for running the Royal Berkshire Show each year. Their statement is below.
Thatcham Vision is a group of volunteers that develop community plans using the views from the local residents. Edible Thatcham is one of their ‘Action Groups’ that focuses on bringing together community, education and business with food; a passion shared by everyone!
By finding unused bits of land or changing the planting that has already been put in public spaces, the group want to highlight the harvest of free food that is on our door step and to encourage people to help themselves, they will be mapping out the many fruit trees and bushes around the town.
The Newbury & District Agricultural Society are great supporters of local produce and this is a fantastic project to get involved with; promoting what the town’s community has to offer right on their door step!
The Society is sponsoring Thatcham Vision’s new website – www.thatchamvision.net - and will also be working closely with members in achieving mutual aims and ambitions, such as:
-Aligning together with the education work the Society do as well as being a member of Thatcham Vision’s Edible Thatcham Action Group.
-Showcasing Edible Thatcham’s work and achievements at the 2017 Royal County of Berkshire Show.
-Supporting Edible Thatcham by way of new members and suggestions.
“This is a fantastic project for us to be included with – very much aligned with our charitable purposes – and it is great to be working with our neighbours!” Daren Bowyer, CEO of the Newbury & District Agricultural Society.
“I’m so pleased that NADAS has agreed to support this important project from Thatcham Vision, they will make a huge difference. Edible Thatcham is all about binding the community together whilst promoting locally produced food so it’s a perfect fit. I’m looking forward to seeing the results of the group’s work” David Conquest, Chairman, Thatcham Vision.
